UPDATE: Forest Glen House Fire Kills Man, Dog
Update: The man who was injured from a fire at his home in Forest Glen died from his injuries Thursday, according to police.
Police have identified the man as Warren Baugh III, 43; Baugh was also a resident of the home.
Detectives from Montgomery County Police’s Major Crimes Division, as well as fire explosive investigators from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, are now “conducting a death investigation” regarding this incident, police say.
Pete Piringer, the spokesperson for MCFRS, tweeted Friday that explosive investigators believe the fire was an accident that was likely caused by “improperly discarded smoking materials.”

According to police, there is no foul play suspected at this time.

Forest Glen House, Couch Fire Injures Man, Kills Dog
Fire officials say that a man has been severely injured from a fire at his home in Forest Glen.
According to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue acting public information officer Capt. Jason Blake, firefighters responded to reports of a fire at a two-story, single family home on Dexter Avenue at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday. The fire alarm at the home had also sounded, said Blake.

Once firefighters arrived at the scene, Blake said that they saw smoke coming from the building. Blake said that neighbors told firefighters that they were concerned that someone was inside of the home.
When firefighters forced the front door open, Blake said that they found a man — whose name and age haven’t been released but Blake said he looks like he was in his 50s — near the entrance. Firefighters also found the family’s pet dog dead, said Blake.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital and Blake said he was in “critical condition.”
Blake said that the fire was contained to the couch of the first floor of the house. The couch “may have been burning for sometimes” before firefighters arrived at the scene, said Blake.
Currently, the status of the man’s condition is unknown, Blake said. Also, Blake said the cause of the fire is also known.
