A Montgomery County correctional officer faces sex assault charges and police say his victim is a transgender woman.

Olukunle A. Oyekanmi, 41, of Silver Spring has been charged with second-degree sexual assault, second-degree assault, sexual contact with an inmate and malfeasance in office, police said. He was released after posting a $20,000 bond, according to online court records.

A statement from police said Oyekanmi, a Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation Correctional Officer, entered the victim’s cell about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, allegedly sexually assaulted the victim, and left the cell. Notification was made of the assault and DOCR staff began coordinating with police investigators, police said. The incident occurred at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Boyds.

Jail surveillance video showed Oyekanmi enter the victim’s cell and remain inside of the cell for the period of time the victim stated the assault occurred, police said.

Detectives arrested Oyekanmi at his home Tuesday and took him to the Central Processing Unit for processing, police said.
