Congressional Country Club to host 2031 PGA Championship, 2036 Ryder Cup

Big time golf in the nation’s capital is not dead just yet. But golf fans will have to wait a bit. The PGA of America announced this morning that Congressional Country Club in Bethesda will host eight events in the next two decades highlighted by the 2031 PGA Championship and the 2036 Ryder Cup.

“This is an historic partnership based upon a fundamental love of the game, common purpose and future vision. The PGA of America is truly a leader in growing the game and touches everyone in countless ways. What a great opportunity for us,” said Bev Lane, Congressional’s president.

Jason Epstein, Congressional’s PGA Director of Golf and Athletics, called the announcement, “the biggest partnership in the history of golf…(We) couldn’t be more proud, couldn’t be more excited.”

In addition to the two marquee events, Congressional, which previously hosted three U.S. Opens (1964, 1997, 2011), a PGA Championship (1976), a U.S. Senior Open (1995), the Booz Allen Classic (2005) and the Quicken Loans National (2007-2009, 2012-2014, 2016), was chosen as the venue for the following tournaments:

  • 2022 and 2027 Women’s PGA Championship
  • 2024 Girls/Boys PGA Junior Championship
  • 2025 and 2033 Senior PGA Championship
  • 2029 PGA Professional Championship

Earlier this year, the PGA Tour released their 2018-19 schedule and for the first since 1980, when the Kemper Open came to Congressional, it did not include a stop in the DC area. The events announced today will certainly help fill that void for golf fans albeit not for a few years.
