Common Ownership Communities Guide Available

The Montgomery County Commission on Common Ownership Communities (CCOC) has released its “Guide to the Procedures and Decisions of the Commission on Common Ownership Communities.” The publication provides valuable information to County residents on laws affecting homeowners, and condominium and cooperative living associations.

The guide is online at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/ccoc. Print versions are available at $15 each by calling the County’s Office of Consumer Protection at 240-777-3636.

“County residents now have a resource that allows them to find decisions on specific issues such as the construction of patios and fences, or budgets and open meetings,” said CCOC Chair Elizabeth Molloy. “This guide is one more step that the CCOC is taking to respond to the great need for readily available information on community management and disputes.”

The guide helps navigate the texts of the CCOC’s decisions on common ownership disputes. Most of these decisions, going back to 1991, are available online on the CCOC website. Short summaries of each of the CCOC decisions are also posted online.

The mission of the 15-member CCOC includes advising on public policy issues that impact these communities, educating owners, residents and professionals associated with these communities on community management and governance; and resolving disputes between owners or residents and their governing bodies. Members are appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council and serve without pay.
