Image of Chandra Walker HollowayThe Montgomery County Commission for Women has announced the election of Chandra Walker Holloway of Burtonsville as its new president. Holloway is an attorney with a law practice in downtown Silver Spring specializing in family law. Prior to starting her own practice, she worked in antitrust litigation at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, LLP. She also practiced general civil litigation while working for Bonner Kiernan Trebach & Crociata, LLP and the Counsel Office for the Government Employees Insurance Company (GEICO).

Holloway is a member of the Maryland, District of Columbia and Montgomery bar associations, as well as the D.C. Family Trial Lawyers Association. She has served as a member of the Montgomery Task Force on Teen Dating Violence and as a committee member for the Montgomery County Choose Respect Teen Dating Conference. A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, she is endorsed by the Potomac Valley Alumnae Chapter of the sorority. She is also a member of the Girl Scouts of the USA and the Montgomery County Maryland Chapter of Jack and Jill of America.

“As the Commission for Women celebrates its 40th year serving Montgomery County, it is a tremendous honor to have been elected to lead this organization,” said Walker Holloway. “I have a passion for identifying opportunities and working to empower socio-economically disadvantaged women and young girls. Empowering women is a cornerstone to creating strong communities. During my tenure, the commission will continue serving the community through informative workshops, partnering with other community-based organizations and advocating for the needs of women and children on the local, state and national levels.”
The Commission for Women is a 15-member board charged by law with the responsibility of advising the public, the County Executive, the County Council and the agencies of the county, state and federal governments on the issues of concern to women.
