Columbia Mall to Reopen Today: #HoCoUnited
There will be a large police presence at 1 p.m. today at Columbia Mall as it reopens to the public for the first time since Saturday’s shooting. The mall will include two memorials for the victims of the Saturday shooting.
On Twitter today, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman asked for the greater public to show its support by using this hashtag, #HoCoUnited.
On Sunday night, police released a photo of the deceased shooting suspect in hopes of gathering more information about him.
The shooter is identified by police as Darion Marcus Aguilar, 19, of Hollywood Road in College Park. According to police, a journal was recovered from Aguilar’s home and he reportedly expressed general unhappiness with life in it. Police said Aguilar, a graduate of Blake High School in Silver Spring, purchased the gun used in the shooting legally in Montgomery County.
The deceased victims have been identified by police as Brianna Benlolo, 21, of College Park, MD and Tyler Johnson, 25, of Ellicott City, MD. Both were employees of Zumiez. Police say the motive in this shooting remains unknown.
Throughout the tragedy, police have been using the Howard County Police Department’s Twitter and Facebook accounts to disseminate information. You can follow the police at https://www.facebook.com/HowardCountyPoliceDepartment?ref=hl and @HCPDnews.
