Collision in Bethesda Turns Fatal

A 92-year-old man has died Friday from injuries he suffered in a July 19 three-car collision, police said.

The crash occurred at Rockledge Drive and Democracy Boulevard, a police statement said.

The collision occurred about 11 a.m. July 19, police said. The preliminary investigation by Bethesda District officers found that a 1997 Chrysler Concord left a parking lot at 6410 Rockledge Drive, trying to turn southbound onto Rockledge Drive toward Democracy Boulevard, police said.

For some reason, the Chrysler struck and crossed the concrete median, colliding with a 2017 BMW 430i that was traveling northbound on Rockledge Drive, police said.

After it was struck by the Chrysler, the BMW then struck a 2001 Nissan Maxima, which was parked and unoccupied on Rockledge Drive, police said.

The Chrysler’s driver, identified as 92-year-old Eugene Levine of the 8100 block of Inverness Ridge Road in Potomac was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said. Levine died of his injuries at the hospital Friday, police said

The driver of the BMW, identified as Steven Marc Collen, 55, of the 6200 block of Lilac Bush Lane in Clarksburg, was taken to a local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. Collen has since been released from the hospital.

This collision remains under investigation.  Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620.
