Coffee with a Cop in Kentlands (PHOTOS)

coffee12The Gaithersburg Police Department in partnership with Starbucks, 121 Market Street in Kentlands, hosted “Coffee with a Cop,” from 7 – 9 a.m. on Sept. 30.

Some of the hot topics discussed at the event included pedestrian safety, parking issues, thefts from automobiles, street robberies, neighborhood watch, list serves, identity theft and dogs.

Police stressed that crime is low in the Kentlands community, and yet it remains important to be proactive to reduce opportunities for crime. For example, police officers stressed locking doors and windows to prevent the opportunity for a theft from a vehicle.

The “Coffee with a Cop” event is designed so residents will feel comfortable approaching officers with questions, voicing concerns and so area residents can meet the city’s police officers one on one.

According to a city of Gaithersburg news release, “Coffee with a Cop” is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the country, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
