Clubs of Color Conference in Silver Spring
A collaboration of organizations are uniting under a common goal on Saturday to mobilize the minority vote and elect more legislators of color.
Laurie-Anne Sayles, president of the African American Democratic Club said the group is coming together to discuss the 2015 legislative session and prepare for the next one.
“Our common interests are strengthening opportunities for minorities; economic development with the procurement procedures, attracting and encouraging more minorities in the political process,” Sayles said.
The community engagement conference is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1 Veteran’s Place in Silver Spring. It is open to the public.
“It is really going to re-energize our bases and the community and get us in the mindset that next legislative session is a year away but we need to start the ground work now, she said.
