Gaithersburg Junior Mayor Contest (PHOTO)
Fourth graders in the City of Gaithersburg can now enter the Junior Mayor Contest. Students are asked to write an essay about what they would if they were mayor.
According to a news release, the theme for this year’s context is “Rising to the Challenge.” Students are asked to write an essay in 275 words or less based on the following scenario:
It is a sad day in Happy Town. It has been put on the “Worst Towns” list because of unhealthy habits such as eating poorly, not getting enough physical activity and smoking.
- What new programs or services would you create to help citizens lead a healthier life and make Happy Town a healthier place to live?
- How would you get citizens to participate?
- What things would you do to make sure the town stays off this list?
The contest is a part of a statewide essay contest sponsored by the Maryland Municipal League (MML) in partnership with the Maryland Mayor’s Association and the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Company.
Deadline for the contest is March 1, 2016. You can view submission instructions on the City of Gaithersburg website.
