City of Gaithersburg Invites Residents to Help Name New Park

The City of Gaithersburg is inviting residents to help suggest names for the new city park that is scheduled to be built.

The park will be constructed at the former Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) site, located at 10901 Darnestown Road. Gaithersburg residents are encouraged to complete online submissions through Dec. 7.

A naming committee made up of city staff members will be in charge of reviewing all suggestions. The committee will then choose the best three to submit to the Mayor and City Council for their final determination.

According to a press release, the committee reserves the right to select the most appropriate name for the park based on:

• The geographical location (such as street names, subdivision name, or adjacent school name)
• Historical significance
• The passing of an active contributor(s) to the community
• or any other reasons.

This will be the 28th park in Gaithersburg and is set to feature community gardens, a bicycle skills course, pavilions, a playground, fitness and picnic pods, and a welcome plaza.
