City of Gaithersburg Receives Award for Annual Book Festival

The City of Gaithersburg was presented with a 2018 LEAD Achievement Award by the Maryland Municipal League for the city’s annual book festival.

The award recognizes jurisdictions that are addressing community challenges and enhancing the quality of life.  Organizers with the Gaithersburg Book Festival, created by Mayor Jud Ashman, were recognized with giving the community a national stage to celebrate their commitment to diversity, equality, community, and for literary, according to a news release.

“We appreciate MML’s recognition of events like the Gaithersburg Book Festival and the positive impact they can have on a community,” said Ashman. “While the day of the event is the pinnacle of our yearlong efforts, what makes the Book Festival so special is that it is not just a one-day event but an ongoing commitment to literacy.”
