Cities Readiness Initiative in Damascus Today

Local and state agencies will be conducting a full-scale exercise using the Cities Readiness Initiative plan to assess the ability of Montgomery County personnel from different departments and agencies to work together to conduct mass-dispensing of medications operations, implement a traffic control and security plan and assess the ability of mass dispensing staff to receive on-site training.

The Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI) is a federally-funded program designed to enhance preparedness in the nation’s largest cities and metropolitan statistical areas where more than 50% of the U.S. population resides. Through CRI, State and large metropolitan public health departments have developed plans to respond to a large-scale bioterrorist event by dispensing antibiotics to the entire population identified within 48 hours.
