A Christmas Day fire has displaced a family of eight in Gaithersburg, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer.

Fortunately, there were no injuries.

Piringer said the Dec. 25 fire at 36 Anna Court originated in a second floor bedroom of a three-level, condominium style townhouse.

According to Piringer, 65 firefighters were called to the scene.

On his Twitter account, Piringer said damage was estimated at $120,000.

The cause of the fire was ruled accidental.

According to Piringer, a child was playing with a lighter in a bedroom where the fire ignited.

Piringer also reported that there were no smoking alarms in the home. He said firefighters canvassed the neighborhood and installed smoke alarms at many other nearby residences as well.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents, Piringer said.
