Chilean Organizations to Host the 2014 Teleton in Bethesda

Chileans in the Washington metropolitan area are gearing up for the Teleton 2014, an event that raises millions for children with disabilities, cancer, and autism.

The Corporacion Cultural Chile with the support of the Chilean Embassy and the Chilean American Foundation are scheduled to host on Nov. 29 a family-friendly event featuring clowns, face painting, princess characters, live music and much more.

Monica Kinney, president of Corporacion Cultural Chile, said 100 percent of donations collected during the event goes to Teleton.

“To help some of these children … That’s wonderful,” she said.

According to a press release, the Teleton is a worldwide recognized fundraiser nonprofit that helps raise awareness of individuals with disabilities, and funds to provide quality health care at no cost. Their goal is to raise approximately $25 million pesos Chilenos or $15 million dollars.

During the event, Kinney added that Master Marco Sies, a seven time world kickboxing champion, will hold games and contests, and traditional Chilean food will be sold along with silent auction on products donated by local grocery stores.

The free and open to the public event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. at the Women’s Club of Bethesda, 5500 Sonoma Road in Bethesda.
