Child Prodigy Jose Andre Montano to Kids: ‘You Can Do All The Things You Want to In Life’ (VIDEO)
Bob Murad, assistant director of the youth orchestra at the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Club described Jose Montano as, “a very special kid,” during the youth orchestra practice on Monday night.
Dozens of kids are giving up roughly three hours after school every Monday to learn about Blues and Jazz under the direction of local saxophonist Fred Foss and pianist Bob Murad, including 12-year-old Jose Andre Montano, who happens to be blind.
“He’s able to hear things and reproduce them on the piano at incredible speed and it’s just an extremely rare talent.”
At just 12 years old, Jose has performed in Italy, Malaysia, Chile, and even the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts here n Washington D.C.
“I started to play when I was 4 years and a half,” Jose said. “I heard a lot of feeling in the piano and when you play the noise […]it has a really good sound.”
Hearing sound and notes is how he taught himself to play.
“I just listen to the note for 30 seconds and then I can play,” Montano said.
In addition to the piano, he taught himself how to play the drums and the keyboard.
Jose said he only practices about once a week since like most children his age, he spends his free time playing on the computer, hanging with friends and rooting for his favorite soccer team which is Barcelona.
And while he gushes as the thought of being a child prodigy, Jose has a message for children who are lacking confidence.
“You can do all the things you want to do in your life ,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s sports, music, reading; just do the things you love to do just do it with a lot of happiness, feeling and patience.”
