UPDATED: Child Killed in Gaithersburg Crash at Fields Road and I-370
UPDATED, June 17, 6:30 p.m. – Police have identified the driver of the car and the boy killed in a crash in Gaithersburg Tuesday morning.
The driver of the 2003 Toyota Corolla is being identified as Narges Shafeirad, 33. She remains hospitalized in serious condition, police said. The boy who died was her son, 5-year-old Daniel Dana, according to police.
On Tuesday, June 16, at about 3:30 a.m., a passing fire and rescue vehicle saw a car on fire off the road near the westbound lanes of Sam Eig Highway and Fields Road. At the scene rescue personnel said Shafeirad,who was injured, told first responders that there was another person in the car. Rescuers attempted to force open the vehicle, breaking glass, and then extinguishing the fire, but were unable to remove Daniel from the vehicle, according to police.

A boy was killed in a fatal car accident and fire early Tuesday morning at Fields Road and I-370 in Gaithersburg, according to Montgomery County Police.
Police said the child was a passenger in a rear seat of the vehicle. Police said the vehicle’s driver, a woman, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She remains in serious condition at a local burn unit. Authorities are not releasing their identities at this time.
According to a police account, the vehicle was observed on fire at 3:30 a.m. by a passing fire and rescue vehicle near the westbound lanes of Sam Eig Highway (I-370). Fire and rescue crews said the woman told them that there was another person in the vehicle. Rescuers attempted to force open the vehicle, breaking glass and then extinguishing the fire but they were unable to remove the victim from the vehicle.
Police said that I-370 is closed from Fields Road to Great Seneca Highway because of the investigation. Morning commuters are advised to avoid this area.
