Rockville Woman Arrested For Leaving Son and Puppy in Car While She Shopped
A Rockville woman faces neglect and child abuse charges after police say she left her 7-year-old son and a puppy in a car while she shopped at the Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg.
Gaithersburg Police Officer Dan Lane, said officers got a call that a boy and dog were in a car in the parking lot outside of Sears at the mall about 12:41 p.m., July 14. When they arrived, Lane said, the car’s windows were down but that the boy and dog had been left alone in the car. Inside was a water bowl for the dog, according to the police report.
“He said he was waiting for him mom while she shopped at the mall,” Lane said.
Police took the boy and the dog into an air-conditioned cruiser while they searched for mom, Joshalin Evans, 30, of Crossfield Court. They found her about 1:55 p.m.
“She came out of the mall walking toward the vehicle when she was approached by officers and arrested,” Lane said.
Evans now faces charges of reckless endangerment, second-degree child abuse and neglect of a minor. She was released on bond July 14.
Evans’ attorney Rebecca Nitkin was not immediately available for comment on the case when MyMCMedia attempted to reach her Friday.
