Chevy Chase Woman Gets 20 Years for Securities Charges
A 56-year-old Chevy Chase woman was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for securities fraud, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Greenbelt.
Dawn J. Bennett also must must pay restitution of $14,504,290 and forfeit $14,306,842, the statement said.
U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis also sentenced Bennett to five years of supervised release upon her release, according to the statement.
After deliberating for fewer than five hours, a federal jury convicted Bennett on Oct. 17 on 17 charges that included conspiracy, securities fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud and making false statements on a loan application, according to the statement.
According to the information presented at her nine-day trial, Bennett is the owner and operator of DJB Holdings, LLC, which does business as DJBennett.com, an Internet retail website for luxury sportswear.
Bennett’s co-defendant, Bradley Mascho, 52, of Frederick, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit securities fraud and to making a false statement. Mascho faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.
As part of his plea agreement, Mascho is required to pay restitution in the full amount of the victim’s losses, which is at least $5,720,457, minus amounts repaid with money not derived from his criminal conduct, but in no event less than $3,650,238.
Mascho is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 28.
