Chef Andres to Address MCPS Class of 2020 During Virtual Graduation

Chef Jose Andres will address the Montgomery County Public Schools Class of 2020 during its virtual graduation Sunday, June 7.

Andres, of Bethesda, is a humanitarian and founder of World Central Kitchen. He has prepared and provided free meals to the needy throughout the world.

The universal graduation celebration for the 10,500 graduating seniors can be viewed on MCPS TV, which airs on Channel 34 for Comcast users, Channel 36 for Verizon users and Channel 89 for RCN subscribers.

It also will be live streamed on the MCPS website as well as featured on NBC4 at 6 p.m.,Cozi TV (which broadcasts over-the-air on Channel 4.2); Verizon Fios Channel 460 and Xfinity Channel 208.

NBC4 anchor Leon Harris will emcee the event. Other speakers include Superintendent of Schools Jack Smith, Board of Education President Shebra Evans and video messages from MCPS alumni.

All high schools will also host individual virtual ceremonies for their students June 8 through June 12.

MCPS has delayed traditional, in-person graduation ceremonies in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. When local officials determine it is safe to engage in large gatherings, MCPS will host events for the Class of 2020.

Parents, guardians and family members are encouraged to email short videos and photos honoring their graduates to pio@mcpsmd.org. These pieces may be included during the Universal Graduation.
