Charges Dropped Against Kellyanne Conway’s Alleged Assaulter

Prosecutors dropped all charges yesterday against the woman accused of assaulting White House counselor Kellyanne Conway at a Bethesda restaurant.

The trial for Mary Elizabeth Inabinett of Chevy Chase was scheduled to begin yesterday, but the second-degree assault and disorderly conduct charges were dropped before court proceedings could begin.

Inabinett, 63, approached Conway while she was attending her daughter’s birthday party at Uncle Julio’s Mexican restaurant in October.

Inabinett allegedly grabbed and shook Conway briefly before yelling politically charged comments at her for nearly 10 minutes until she was escorted from the restaurant.

This incident occurred in the days following the confirmation hearings for now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, though there is no evident connection between the two events.

“She was out of control. I don’t even know how to explain her to you,” Conway told CNN in a February interview. “Her whole face was terror and anger. She was right here, and my daughter was right there.”

Inabinett disputed the initial report, claiming that she was only expressing her political views in a public setting.

“While there was touching, it was minor in nature and did not rise to the level of a prosecution,” Ramon Korionoff, a spokesman for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, told USA Today. Prosecutors also noted Inabinett had sent Conway a letter to apologize for the incident, saying she should have chosen a better place and time for her comments.
