Character Counts! Awards Ceremony Set for Feb. 12

character counts emblemTo celebrate CHARACTER COUNTS! in Gaithersburg, 529 students created written and graphic works celebrating the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.

The winners of the annual poster and Adult Heroes essay contests will be recognized at a public awards ceremony on February 12 at Goshen Elementary School.

This year’s poster contest, “Celebrating CHARACTER COUNTS! In the Community and Through Service,” was open to all students in Gaithersburg area elementary and middle schools. It was co-sponsored by the Gazette Newspapers and received 470 entries. The ten winners are:

Elementary and middle school students also participated in an “Adult Heroes in OUR Community” essay contest, co-sponsored by the Gaithersburg Rotary Club. Participants wrote about someone who has had a positive, personal influence on their lives related to one or more of the Six Pillars of Character. 59 entries were received. The five winners, all 5th grade students, are:

The posters and essays are on display at Lakeforest Shopping Center through February 28.
