Celebrate Spring at Strathmore
Celebrate the arrival of Spring at this new festival May 4 noon to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Strathmore, 10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda. This free outdoor family festival presented by the Washington Revels features traditional celebrations for the arrival of spring.
Enjoy four continuous stages of traditional music and dance, festive processions, children’s crafts and games, mummers plays, sing-alongs, and more. The day includes plenty of audience participation—who can raise their voices at the Community Sing, kick up your heels at the Community Dance, frolic in the May Pole Dance, and more. There’s lots to see and do on the festival grounds, including spring-themed foods and drinks, local food samples, craft demonstrations, and wares for sale from artwork to May wreaths to tambourines.
The central element of the day’s festivities takes place at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. on the Gazebo Stage, when Washington Revels will perform their 30th annual celebration of western English Spring traditions. The performance includes singing by Revels adults, teen and kids choruses—plus a crowning of the May Queen, the Padstow May ‘Oss, Maypole dances, mummers plays, and more audience participation.
