Career Expo Aims to Assist Senior Residents Re-Enter the Workforce
In an effort to help older adults re-enter the workforce, the Jewish Council for the Aging of Greater Washington held its annual career expo in Bethesda early Monday.
One challenge for many older adults, according to organizers, is finding employment.
“There is a lot of age discrimination and in our county, for example, we just have an immense source of talent,” Micki Gordon, assistant executive director at the JCA said.
The goal of the expo is to connect older workers with potential employers. Workshops available to participants included free resume building and job searching in the digital age.
“So many seniors, within the last 5 plus years, thought they had enough income to retire,” Gordon said. “The economy as we all know has gone up and down, people never expected to but need to re-enter the job market.”
