Captain Didone Talks About The Use of Illegal Drugs with Vapes and E-Cigarettes (VIDEO)
UPDATED Montgomery County Police briefed the Council Public Safety Committee about the use of e-cigarettes and vaporizers to ingest illegal drugs on Monday, Dec. 7th. In this MyMCMedia Extra video, Captain Tom Didone talks about how vaporizor’s and e-cigarette’s are now used to inhale concentrated doses of marijuana.
An e-cigarette is a battery powered vaporizor that is used to inhale vapor and deliver nicotine without the additional harmful ingredients found in tobacco smoke. The product was developed as a safe alternative to smoking cigarettes. Now, according to police, the vaporizer is being used as a way to inhale illegal substances and drugs including marijuana.
According to a news release, vape pens are a form of e-cigarettes that are the most common type of product to use to ingest illegal drugs. Due to the small size and limited odor released, vape pens make it more difficult for law enforcement officers to detect illegal substance use.
Earlier this year, the Montgomery County Council passed Bill 14-56, which broadened certain smoking prohibitions to include vaping. The law went into effect in June and also prohibits the possession of vaping products by minors. The law also restricts store displays so only sellers can access the vaporizers and e-cigarettes. Packaging must also be child resistant.
