Building Evacuated on Key West Avenue

Montgomery County firefighters evacuated hundreds of people from a building at 9717 Key West Avenue in Rockville after a hazardous materials incident was reported around 9:30 a.m. on July 22.

Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer describes the incident on his Twitter account as an “oil spill.”

He said emergency medics evaluated dozens of people at the scene and transported 18 sick patients to area hospitals. He said none of the injuries were life threatening.

No other information about what caused this incident has been released to date.
