Buckle Up; Raising Awareness About Car Seat Safety in Montgomery County (VIDEO)
Families in Montgomery County can count on a child car seat safety program to learn how to properly strap their children into a car seat or a booster.
The light turns green and these concerned parents enter the Fire Station number 34 in Germantown to learn how to install a car seat, properly buckle their children, and the right time to turn the child facing forward.
MyMCMedia’s Aline Barros talked to parents and car seat program specialist about a program that checks more than 500 car seats monthly.
“I can’t tell you how many times that I roll up in a crash that looks horrific and those babies are completely safe in a car seat that was properly installed,” said Dan Ballantine, Montgomery County Rescue Services Lieutenant and Car Seat Program Instructor.
Montgomery County Car Seat Program Coordinator Emily Crown said the county has offered this program for more than 15 years. Crown said residents must scheduled an appointment prior to visiting a site in the county that offers the program.
She also said common mistakes are people not putting the seat “tightly” enough, the child facing the wrong direction, or inappropriate seat.
To Crown safety comes first and she urged parents to seek help from a car seat specialist at the county’s safety program.
