Breast Cancer Awareness Month (PHOTO)

The Montgomery County Council declared October ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ today and were joined by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and Local 1664. Nancy Floreen, Council Vice President, recognized Local 1664 for their efforts to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Floreen, a breast cancer survivor, released this statement following the proclamation:

“One in eight women in the United States (or 12 percent) will develop invasive breast cancer at some point in her life, making breast cancer the most common cancer among women except for skin cancer. I salute the firefighters for doing their part to help defeat this terrible disease.”

MCFRS, through the International Association of Fire Fighters Passionately Pink Campaign,  have raised nearly $15,000 to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Red Devils through the sale of t-shirts. Many County firefighters are also wearing pink attire while on the job in October to bring attention to the fight against the disease.
