‘Bombs’ Found on Clarksburg Heights Trail

A pair of “drain-o bomb” devices were found along the Clarksburg Heights Trail, according to a statement from Montgomery Parks.

The devices were found about 10:18 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, on the trail, which is in Little Seneca Greenway Stream Park, the statement said.

The devices combine drain cleaner, water and aluminum in a plastic bottle. The mixture creates hydrogen gas and creates a caustic explosion, the statement said.

The Montgomery County division of the Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to the scene, confirming the explosives had not detonated, according to the statement. A search found no other devices nor any evidence, Montgomery Parks said. The county Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating, in connection with the Park Police Investigative Services Section.

If anyone comes across any suspicious devices, do not touch them. Montgomery Parks asks that the Park Police Communications Section be notified at 301.949.3010.
