Block Party at Long Branch Library

The Long Branch Super Block Party today (May 11) from 2 to 5 p.m. celebrates the ten temporary sculptures on display at the Long Branch Library, 8800 Garland Ave., Silver Spring. Live music, kids activities/entertainers, an art exhibit and a sense of community will highlight the event.

This free event celebrates the sculptures that are on display at the library and along Flower Ave. until May 20. The sculptures, that honor the Long Branch community and culture, were composed by students from the University of Maryland Art and Architecture Studio.

A variety of live music will be performed by The Relics (Reggae), Jumpin Jupiter (Rockabilly) and Trimbaldi’s Band (Latin). Children’s activities include face painting, kite making, storytime, bubble making, Little Garden Art project, Imagination with Magic Clay and T-shirt screen printing.

Special appearances are scheduled by McGruff the Crime Dog; Talon, the D.C. United mascot; magician George Bradley and The Tricycle Man Harry Connelly.

Rain date is May 18.
