Bicyclist Hit by School Bus

Montgomery County police are investigating a serious accident involving a school bus and a bicyclist that happened at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 along Darnestown Road.
When the collision occurred, police said there were 29 students from Poolesville High on the bus.
According to the police department’s preliminary investigation, the bicyclist was traveling northbound on Berryville Road and the school bus was eastbound on Darnestown Road when the accident happened. Police said for reasons still under investigation, the bicyclist and school bus collided at the investigation.
Officer Britta Thomas said the bicyclist was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Police said the bicyclist’s name will be released after the family is notified.
The school bus driver has been identified by police as Michael Rinaldo of Germantown. The bus driver was taken to the hospital for a check up. None of the students on the bus was injured.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this collision and have not spoken to detectives to please contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
