Bethesda Man Who Set Himself on Fire Near White House Dies

A Bethesda man who set himself on fire blocks from the White House on Wednesday died from his injuries, according to a statement from U.S. Park Police.

Arnav Gupta ignited himself on the Ellipse at 15th and Constitution, the park police said. He was extinguished and taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Montgomery County police had released a missing persons report for Gupta earlier Wednesday.

Gupta, 33, of Cindy Lane had last been seen by his family about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, county police said.

The statement said police were concerned for Gupta’s physical and emotional welfare.
