Bethesda Man, Missing More Than Three Months, Found Dead

The remains of John Patrick Donohoe of Bethesda, missing for more than three months, were found in Warren County, Virginia, on Sunday, near an entrance to the Appalachian Trail, police agencies said Wednesday.
Donohoe, 36 when reported missing, had been reported as a missing person to police on Dec. 13, Montgomery County police said in a statement released Tuesday.
The cause of death is still under investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Manassas, Virginia, according to a statement from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Donohoe’s vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, was found unoccupied in Front Royal, Virginia, on March 3, police said. Front Royal is about 75 miles west of Washington, D.C.
A hiker notified the Warren County Sheriff’s Office saying he found what appeared to be human remains, a sheriff’s office statement said. His body was found on property owned by the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute.
In addition to the sheriff’s office, the National Zoological Park Police, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Virginia State Police, National Park Police and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is conducting this death investigation, Montgomery County police said. Anyone with information asked to call Warren County Investigator Brad Pugh at 540-635-4128.
Donohoe, who lived on Auburn Avenue in Bethesda, was last seen leaving a family member’s Bethesda home, Montgomery County police said. His family had offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information that would lead to his whereabouts.
Nine days after Donohoe disappeared, his credit card was used by a woman buying $700 worth of items at the Beauty Land beauty supply store at 920 Shoppers Way, Upper Marlboro, and at other retail stores around Hyattsville, police said.
