Bethesda Green Gala Celebrates Sustainability and Local Businesses (VIDEO & PHOTOS)

UPDATED, Oct. 9, 11:20 a.m. — The annual Bethesda Green Gala was held at the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club on Oct. 8.

More than 300 hundred people gathered at the fundraiser that featured “green champions” from the businesses, nonprofits, school and faith community.

In this MyMCMedia Extra, County and Bethesda Green officials said it is important to utilize technology that supports a more sustainable community.

“The Gala is a time to come together as a community to recognize, be inspired by, and celebrate the achievements of our green champions,” said Bethesda Green Executive Director Veronique Marier.

Bethesda Green officials said they were proud of the organization’s business incubator program. Marier said incubator companies created 39 jobs and approximately $1.3 million in revenue this year.

Another highlight of the night was the Bethesda Magazine Green Awards, which featured five winners:

  • Compost Crew received an award in the category that honors a business whose primary focus is developing green products or services that is having a significant impact on sustainability.
  • JBG Companies received an award in the category that honors a business that is making an impact on sustainability through its green practice.
  • Wildlife Habitat Council was recognized as the nonprofit that is making a significant impact on sustainability through its green practices;
  • Green Acres School also received an award for its significant green practices;
  • Father Jacek Orzechowski was recognized as someone who is making an impact through his leadership and teachings in the community.
