Bethesda Essay & Short Story Contest Open for Entries

As part of the Local Writer’s Showcase, which will take place April 19 – 20, 2018 the Bethesda Urban Partnership, Inc. (BUP) invites local writers to enter the essay contest for a chance to win $500 and be published in Bethesda Magazine’s July/August  issue and honored at a special event on April 20, 2018.

The Bethesda Urban Partnership and Bethesda Magazine have partnered to welcome adults ages 18 and over as well as high school students to write a 500-word essay and / or 4,000-word short story about any topic and enter the Essay and Short Story Contest. The deadline to submit entries is Jan. 24, 2018. Writers can submit to both the essay and short story categories.

The first place winners in each category will be awarded $500, and be published in Bethesda Magazine; second place winners are honored with $250; third place winners will receive $150; and honorable mentions will be awarded $75 each.

High School winners receive: $250, first place; $100, second place; $50, third place. Bethesda Magazine will print the first place Essay & Short Story.

Bethesda Magazine and Bethesda urban Partnership’s websites will feature the winning essays and short stories. The authors will be honored at a special event during the Local Writer’s Showcase.
