Bethesda and Burtonsville Early Voting Sites Restored (PHOTO)
Montgomery County Board of Elections will not only restore early voting sites in Bethesda (Jane E. Lawton Community Center) and Burtonsville (Marilyn J Praisner Community Recreation Center), but also request the State to allow a tenth site. Montgomery County Council President George Leventhal tweeted the news earlier today.
County Board of Elections Chair Jim Shalleck called to say the Board will restore both disputed early voting sites (Praisner & Lawton).

Mr. Shalleck also said the Board would ask the state for a 10th early voting site in Potomac. — George Leventhal (@georgeleventhal) October 19, 2015
This is following last week’s special meeting held by the Montgomery County Board of Elections, where Jim Shellack, Board President, said that they would only restore one early voting site as a compromise. Councilmembers Nancy Navarro and Tom Hucker, supporters of restoring both sites, also tweeted out the news to constituents.

Thanks to MoCo BOE for restoring early voting in East County & Bethesda. Will make it easier to register & vote for thousands of residents — Tom Hucker (@tomhucker) October 19, 2015
We all share same values on voting: No matter what you look like, how much money you have or where come from – your voice counts #mdpolitics — Tom Hucker (@tomhucker) October 19, 2015
Hucker also sent a letter to the Board of Elections supporting the additional voting sites for the 2016 election year:
But with a population greater than six states and the District of Columbia, I firmly believe that having only nine early voting centers is insufficient and does not serve the voters of our County well. I hope you will also join me in pushing the General Assembly to add at least one additional early voting location through emergency legislation. A number of our communities – including Olney, Potomac and Takoma Park – deserve to be closer to an early voting location, and I look forward to supporting your ability to realize this in the near future.
We share the same values when it comes to voting: As an American your voice counts. And no matter what you look like, how much money you have or where you come from you have the right to vote. I strongly believe that this proposal puts these values into action.
