Berliner Writes Hogan Seeking More School Construction Funding (VIDEO)

In a letter to Gov. Larry Hogan, Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner asked for an increase in school construction by at least $100 million in the governor’s proposed fiscal 2019 capital budget.

“Last week, our Superintendent released his proposed $1.18 billion capital budget for the school system,” Berliner wrote. “In my view it is a starting point that seeks to balance the urgent capacity needs facing our school system, but while recognizing the fiscal constraints facing our county.”

Berliner cites figures that show the county accounts for 18 percent of total statewide enrollment but receives 12.8 percent of annual state capital spending.
