Be a Part of the Transformation

It’s hard to believe that as we sit here in September, both the Orioles and the Nationals are sitting atop their respective league divisions. While I don’t want to jinx their chances by talking about the prospects for a Beltway World Series, that’s a tantalizing thought to even think about that!

image of a baseballAll this local excitement about baseball makes me think about my favorite baseball team growing up, the Oakland A’s. I remember those amazing teams that won consecutive World Series in the 1970s, only to see the team fall on hard times and never fully recover. The only glimpse of recaptured greatness came under the management of Billy Beane, the legendary A’s GM who tried to regain that lost glory. Beane first tried to get more money for better players and was turned down, then simply looked to the staff to work longer hours. It wasn’t until Beane injected some data-driven analysis of player performance that the A’s began to take off. Beane’s approach to a century-old way of doing things in baseball was completely transformative… and in so doing has forever transformed the game of baseball.

We at MCM, like so many non-profit organizations facing no additional funding and a staff that is already overworked, must transform… or die. Our new mymcmedia.org broadband platform is a groundbreaking resource for Montgomery County residents to contribute content and engage with the community is transformative ways. Just look at the contributed blogs from Montgomery County residents attending the Republican and Democratic conventions, or the many community submissions following the El Derecho storms this summer. That’s a transformation from typical mainstream media coverage of top-of-mind events for county residents. It’s YOUR voice being heard for the first time.

Be a part of it… log onto mymcmedia.org and discover the ways YOU can blog, upload videos & photos, as well as write comments about the Montgomery County stories that matter to you. Play ball!
