Bank Robbery Suspects Charged (Photos)

Montgomery County Police robbery detectives have charged two suspects for the robbery of the Sandy Spring Bank located in Sandy Spring on September 25. Deanna Lorraine Dodd, age 35, of an unconfirmed address, has been charged with robbery. According to police, the getaway driver, Crystal Lopez-Roa, age 37, of an unconfirmed address, has also been charged with robbery.

On September 25 at approximately 1:32 p.m., officers responded to the Sandy Spring Bank located at 908 Olney Sandy Spring Road for the report of a bank robbery. Investigation revealed that a suspect, later identified by police as Dodd, entered the bank and passed a note demanding money. She received an undisclosed amount of cash and ran from the bank. Police say, a witness observed Dodd enter a waiting vehicle and provided a description of the getaway driver.

Investigators from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office communicated with Montgomery County Police robbery detectives and provided Dodd’s name as a possible suspect. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office had obtained a warrant for Dodd’s arrest for committing two bank robberies Carroll County.

On September 26, Maryland State troopers responded to a hotel in Takoma Park and arrested Dodd on the Carroll County arrest warrant. According to police, on that day, Dodd was wearing the same clothing that she had worn during the Sandy Spring Bank robbery. Police say Dodd was in the company of Lopez-Roa, who through investigation, was identified as the getaway driver in the Sandy Spring Bank robbery.

Montgomery County Police detectives transported Lopez-Roa to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with her robbery. She has been released from custody pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for October 25. Dodd was transported to the Carroll County Detention Center to face the robbery charges brought in that county. Montgomery County Police robbery detectives report they have obtained a warrant for Dodd’s arrest for committing the Sandy Spring Bank robbery. She remains in the custody of Carroll County.
