Bank Robbery and Kidnapping Arrest (Photo)

Montgomery County police have arrested a Rockville man for a bank robbery and kidnapping that occurred on October 29 at the Suntrust Bank, 1475 Rockville Pike in Rockville.

According to police, it happened at around 9 a.m. when a suspect confronted a bank employee near a parking garage located at 198 Halpine Road. The employee had just returned to the parking garage after opening the branch location at 1475 Rockville Pike, police said. According to police, the employee was forced at gunpoint to enter the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect drove the victim back to the victim’s vehicle where the suspect stole personal property belonging to the victim, police said.

Police said the suspect then bound the victim’s arms and legs and placed him in the trunk of the suspect’s car. According to police, the suspect drove to the SunTrust bank where the victim was removed from the trunk and forced to enter the branch using his keys. Once inside, police said, the suspect confronted a second employee and removed money from the cash drawer before fleeing the scene.

Detectives developed information on the suspect and obtained a warrant for Michael Patrick, age 45, of the 1200 block of Autre Court in Rockville.

Police said Patrick was arrested in Washington, D.C. on October 31. According to police, he has waived extradition and is currently incarcerated in Montgomery County. In this case, he has been charged with two counts of Armed Robbery, one count of Kidnapping, and one count of Firearm Use in a Crime of Violence.

Further investigation into recent armed robberies led detectives to also charge Patrick with two armed robberies that occurred at the Dollar Tree located at 1776 E. Jefferson Street in Rockville. In these cases, a suspect armed with a gun confronted an employee near closing. These robberies occurred on August 17 and October 19, police said.
