Backyard Theater Features Taikoza (Video)

Strathmore Backyard Theater for children features two performances by Taikoza on August 1 at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. in the Backyard Theater, 10701 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda. Taikoza gets kids on their feet with a lively glimpse into the music and culture of Japan, with ancestral Taiko drums, bamboo flutes and dancers in colorful traditional costumes. Taikoza uses the powerful rhythms of the Taiko drums to create an electrifying energy that carries audiences in a new dimension of excitement. The Taiko is a large, barrel-like drum that can fill the air with the sounds of rolling thunder. Roughly translated, Taiko means big drums-and that’s exactly what Taikoza brings.

Tickets are $8 for adults and children. To purchase tickets, call 301.581.5100 or visit www.strathmore.org.  Children ages 2 and under are free.

Parking for Backyard Theater is in the Mansion lot on a space-available basis. Enter the lot at 10701 Rockville Pike. Overflow parking is at the meters along Tuckerman Lane, or in the Metro garage. (Parking in the garage is $5 and a Metro SmarTrip or major credit card is required to pay the exit fare).

The Backyard Theater stage is outdoors under a tent. Please bring blankets or low beach chairs.
