Backpack Report: Betty Hekimian

Hi, my name is Colette Youstra reporting about American immigrant and entrepreneur, Betty Hekimian. Her father lost his job when the war was about to start, so he moved to America. Betty, her mom and her brother moved to their grandmother’s house in Liverpool, England. Once their father had enough money to bring them to America, Betty and her family boarded a rescue ship to the USA. Better got married later on, but her husband died in Korea. She remarried Norris Hekimian about 7 years later and they had a business called Hekimian Labs, an electronic firm. After selling it, they started the Phase Foundation to give money to human services. It is now run by their children.
