Awesomeness in DC
Fantatstic Forum had a banner weekend at AWESOME CON DC! This is year two for the convention. Boasting such celebrity guests as Billie Piper (Rose Tyler of Doctor Who) and Danai Gurira (Michonne of The Walking Dead) Awesome Con attracted tens of thousands of attendees to DC’s Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Things kicked off in grand fashion on Friday, April 18 with a gathering at the US Capitol. Hundreds of fans engaged in an official Guinness Book of World Records attempt (hosted by producer Patrick Michael Strange) to break the record for total number of people appearing in superhero costumes. Although unsuccessful, the effort attracted coverage by international news media outlets. In addition to the convention itself there was also the Sonicboombox after party at Opera Ultra Lounge and a concert at The Black Cat featuring Andrew W.K.
In what was a milestone for FANTASTIC FORUM, we set up on location at the con to tape the discussion portion of three episodes and conduct interviews with celebrities and attendees. Producer Ulysses E. Campbell joined Patrick in pulling double-duty by hosting convention panels and events.
Convention founder/organizer Ben Penrod continues to raise the bar for his peers with the success of this latest offering. Here is Ben being interviewed by filmmaker Joe Carabeo of Astray Productions. Joe and his fine team produced the Awesome Con DC TV commercial and radio spots that featured voice over by producer Ulysses E. Campbell. Astray was tasked with creating an exclusive documentary on Ben and his work in bringing Awesome Con to fruition.
Commendations to our fabulous production crew and on camera talent! Special thanks to Robert Snip, Mark Leeke, Bryan Lyles, Billie Rae Bates, David Oliver and make up artist Cornelius Alexander of Platinum Cosmetics.
