Update: Outer Loop Lanes Open on American Legion Bridge

Update, 4:15 p.m.: The Outer Loop lanes on I-495 are now open, according to Alert Montgomery. All Inner Loop lanes of I-495 remain closed. The closure will likely remain in place through the evening commute. Seek alternate route if possible.

Original post: Alert Montgomery has posted a “severe traffic alert” for the American Legion Bridge.

The alert went out about 2:40 p.m. Thursday.

“Accident cleanup closes the left two lanes of the Outer Loop of I-495 on the American Legion Bridge,” the alert said.

“All Inner Loop lanes of I-495 on the American Legion Bridge are closed. This will be an extended closure. Expect significant delays. Seek alternate route if possible.”

The Maryland State Highway Administration said, via a tweet, an overturned tanker truck had closed all but the left shoulder of the I-495 Inner Loop.
