Ashburton Elementary Teacher Faces Child Porn Charges

Daemon Dartouzos | MCPD

A Montgomery County physical education teacher faces 10 counts of possession of child pornography, a Montgomery County police statement said.

Daemon Alan Dartouzos, of the 20300 block of Sandsfield Terrace in Germantown, is employed by the Montgomery County Public Schools at Ashburton Elementary School in Bethesda.

He was arrested Tuesday, but he has been on leave for more than a year after police executed a search warrant at his home, according to a letter to parents from the school’s principal, Gregory Mullenholz

The police statement said the charges followed “an extensive investigation by detectives from the Child Exploitation Unit in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

Detectives do not believe that the images of child pornography related to this investigation involved any MCPS students.

Mullenholz wrote that Dartouzos, who started with Montgomery County Public Schools in 1991, was placed on administrative leave in January 2018.

Mullenholz said the school system could not share details with the community until now to avoid prejudicing the investigation.

“We are committed to the well-being of all our students. A support team of school psychologists, counselors and pupil personnel workers from MCPS will join with our staff tomorrow, March 6, 2018, to provide counseling and support to students upon request,” Mullenholz wrote.

Detectives are urging anyone who has information regarding Daemon Dartouzos or these incidents to contact the Child Exploitation Unit at 240-773-5400.

Online court records offered no details about the case.
