Applications Are Arriving at Gaithersburg City Hall for Council Vacancy
UPDATED Oct. 2, 1:43 p.m. -Gaithersburg City Attorney Lynn Board reports that three applications have been received for an anticipated vacancy on the Gaithersburg City Council. Applications are due in by 5 p.m. on Oct. 6.
Board said a list of the applicants and their applications will be available on Oct. 7.
The five City Council members are planning to meet in executive session on October 6 to select one of the elected leaders as the city’s next mayor.
You may remember that Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz submitted his conditional resignation, earlier this year, as he is running unopposed for the District 3 County Council seat in the Nov. 4 general election.
UPDATED Sept. 26, 9:41 p.m. – It’s been over three weeks since the city of Gaithersburg posted applications on its website for an anticipated opening on the Gaithersburg City Council and so far not one person has applied.
That’s the word from City Attorney Lynn Board.
On Sept. 3, city officials posted a notice on the city’s website urging applicants to apply for the anticipated vacancy that is expected to occur once City Council members select one of their own on Oct. 6 to be the next Mayor of Gaithersburg.
Although there’s been no applications so far, there is still plenty of time to apply for the anticipated City Council vacancy. Applications are due in by 5 p.m. on Oct. 6.
