Apartment Fire

Montgomery County firefighters responded to the report of a fire on the balcony at an apartment complex today (Jan. 29) at 9934 Shelburne Terrace in Gaithersburg.

According to Montgomery County Fire Rescue Services (MCFRS) spokesperson Beth Anne Nesselt, units arrived on the scene and confirmed fire conditions and heavy smoke.

Nesselt said the fire was controlled by sprinklers.

Firefighters have ventilated the building and cleared the scene, according to Nesselt.

So far, no word on the origin and cause of the fire.

Nesselt said initial information indicates that two families will be displaced by the fire.

The investigation continues.
