Apartment Building Fire in Bethesda (PHOTOS)
Montgomery County firefighters say a three-alarm fire overnight at Bethesda Hill apartments, 5114 Dudley Lane, caused an estimated one million dollars in damages.
At the height of the blaze, 150 firefighters were called to fight the fire at the four-story apartment building.
Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer said three families have been displaced by the blaze. He said two firefighters were injured at the scene.
According to Piringer, the cause has been ruled accidental. Piringer said combustibles ignited in a dryer vent.
The fire was controlled in living spaces by sprinklers and all the residents self evacuated, he said.
Piringer said there was appproximately $600,000 in damage to the building and $400,000 in damage to the contents. The fire was first reported by a passersby who saw flames on the exterior of the building, he said.
The Red Cross is helping the families displaced by the blaze.
