An apartment building fire on Thursday displaced over two dozen Silver Spring residents from 13 apartments on Manchester Place and caused an estimated $400,000 in damages.

Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Pete Piringer said the blaze originated in a third floor bedroom of a Park Wayne Apartments unit. He said there were no injuries and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The Red Cross is helping residents with housing, according to Piringer.

Firefighters plan to be back at the scene of the fire on Friday checking smoke detectors at nearby residences.
