Anti-Semitic Fliers Distributed in Chevy Chase and Silver Spring
A community in Chevy Chase and another in Silver Spring were the targets of anti-Semitic fliers distributed to homes recently.
According to Montgomery County Police, an officer in the Second District responded to a report about the fliers in Chevy Chase on Wednesday and then just this morning an officer reported the fliers were distributed along Luzerne Avenue in Silver Spring.
The two-page flier is created much like a scrapbook of anti-Semitic writings that seem photocopied and arranged on the leaflets.
Police Spokesperson Natasha Plotnikov said police are attempting to see if both the Wheaton and Chevy Chase incidences are connected.
Jean Sperling, town manager for the Village of Martin’s Additions, told MyMCMedia, residents have turned over home security video they say show an elderly man they believe might have been responsible for the flier distribution. Sperling said police will be stepping up patrols in the area.
In the meantime, Sperling said a group of young boys in the community have collected all the fliers from the homes and trashed them.
“The word I get is in talking with police officers is that this guy is no real threat and that the material is offensive but not a crime. It is in all likelihood someone who is mentally ill,” Sperling said.
